●     Born in Salvatierra-Agurain (Álava) in 1950.  Married with 2 children.

●     Member of the Spanish Parliament (1979-1982).

●     Representative of the Basque Autonomous Community in the Spanish Senate (1982-1986).

●     Member of the Spanish Parliament for EA (1986-1993).

●     Member of the Mondragón Corporación Corporativa Group. Director of Public Sector Operations for Caja Laboral- Euskadiko Kutxa.

●     Member of the National Executive Body of Eusko Alkartasuna for two periods: 1987-1993 and 1999 onwards.

●     Basque Govt. Minister for Justice, Employment and Social Security since September 2001.
